Principle and Function

The Wamechsi Rotary Drum Screen are used for solid-liquid separation for a high influent flow rate. This screen mainly consists of a screen basket, which act as a filter and rotate, followed by a transportation section that conveys the screenings into a compaction zone and then discharges into screw/hydro conveyor which in its turn conveys to the screenings to a screw compactor.

The Rotary Drum Screen can be installed in a channel with a preferred width. High screenings discharge and low head loss is achieved by the help of the screen basket and the screw conveyor in the transportation zone.

Advantages of the Wamechsi Group Rotating Drum Screen:

-          No bottom bearings or moving parts below water level.

-          Free entry from the influent into the drum without the possibility (especially for rags) to be stopped by the arms and/or lower bearing.

-          Screening basket and screw rotates independently. The screenings will be conveyed up immediately without the risk to remain into the hopper for long time and to overflow into effluent.

-          The RDS is equipped with drum cleaning brushes and spray nozzles (washing system) to obtain the maximum performance in terms of the screening surface.

-          Compaction and organic washing zone included as standard design.

The Wamechsi Group Rotary Drum Screen consists of the following key parts:

-          Motor & Gearbox

The installation of the electrical motor and gearbox enables the basket screen to be cleaned during rotation of the basket which cause the screenings to feed the screw conveyor due to gravity and the washing system. This is crucial in automating the sewage treatment facility. It is however still required to do regular checkups in order to notice any unusual debris that may influence the effectiveness and/or working of the machine.

The electrical motor and gearbox for the screw conveyor enables the screw to rotate and convey the screenings through the outlet chute into a shaft less screw/hydro conveyor or directly into a waste bin.

-          Basket Screen

The basket screen is placed in line with the inlet flow at the inlet-works of the wastewater treatment plant. The obstruction due to the perforation holes prevents medium to large sized debris from entering the rest of the treatment plant. The Wamechsi Rotary Drum Screen uses a perforation surface for the basket with openings ranging from 0.5 to 6 [mm], depending on customer preference.

Washing System

The RDS is equipped with drum cleaning brushes and spray nozzles (washing system) to obtain the maximum performance in terms of the screening surface. The spray nozzles are flat type with 45 ֯ angle to clean the surface of the screen basket with minimum water consumption.

A washing system is also included in the compaction zone to wash out organic matter.

-          Screw Conveyor

The screw conveyor (transportation zone) rotates continuously and conveys the screenings through the transportation zone into the compaction zone which dewaters the screenings and discharge into the outlet chute into a shaft less screw/hydro conveyor or directly into a waste bin.
